At its General Meeting on June 8, 2012, ACCUO adopted its Standards of Practice to guide the work of ombudspersons in Canadian post-secondary institutions. These standards serve as a framework for developing policies, practices, and procedures that reflect the diverse contexts of colleges and universities across the country.
Grounded in the unique role of the ombudsperson within higher education, the standards emphasize the values of independence, impartiality, confidentiality, and accessibility. They highlight how ombudspersons strengthen trust between institutions and their communities by facilitating fair solutions, promoting accountability, and fostering environments of respect and equity.
